Dr. AJ Smit was born and raised in Orange City, Iowa. He grew up with livestock and has always enjoyed being on the farm. Dr. Smit completed is undergraduate degree from Northwestern College in 2004. He worked for Boehringer Ingelmeim Vetmedica Inc. in Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs for three years prior to returning to veterinary school.

Dr. Smit graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011, practiced mixed animal veterinary care at Sioux Center Veterinary Clinic from 2011-2013 and is currently a veterinarian/partner at Pipestone Veterinary Services of Orange City practicing production animal medicine. He is married, and a proud father of seven children..
